Kombat League to Feature Intercontinental Title Fight
By Mike LNg
Kombat League has maintained a very busy schedule of events and the next one coming promises to be interesting. From promoter Boer Gianbattista comes the event Iron Fighters to Pordenone Fiere in Italy. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Kombat League it’s a fairly ambitious undertaking that covers Muay Thai both for professionals and amateurs. Their overall mission states basically that they want to provide a forum for professionals to fight and develop a career from. Though with last year’s KL Cup event amateurs were focused on. So from that perspective I salute Kombat League. Anyhow without much more diversion let’s look at the card as I know it right now.
The main event for this card should prove very competitive with the 2 principals involved. Thai transplant Kaoponlek Somsak will be the home team fighter for Italy. Kaoponlek has complied a well over 280 fight record but has resided in Italy in recent times. As a former Lumpinee Stadium Champion and in recent times the Contender Asia Qualifier champion for Italy, Kaoponlek’s resume is deep in both quantity and quality.
On the opposing end is Charles Francois of France. Among Charles Francois’ accomplishments he took the France A Class championship for Muay Thai two times. Francois is no stranger to fighting high level competition and recently outpointed Kraenkai Tor Silichai and beat Khun Khemer fighter Bird Kam at last year’s Queen’s Birthday held in Thailand. Both will be meeting in the ring to decide the Intercontinental Title holder in Kombat League under full Muay Thai rules.
The undercard for the event is still being pieced together by the promoter but I will follow up with details as they become available.
