Muay Thai National Championships this Weekend

MTAA March 5th card

Stand-Up Promotions and The Commerce Casino brings to you the “Muay Thai National Championships” on March 5th, 2011.  This event follows a successful year ending King’s Birthday in 2010 which had Kevin Ross versus Malaipet Sitraprom in the fight of the year. Stand Up Promotions also hosted the “King’s Birthday Celebration” in December which earned the “fight of the year” award when Kevin Ross defeated Malaipet Sitprapom.  This year is off to a strong start in further proving the consistency of Montri Supanich and Standup Promotions as one of the more solid promoters in California, the west coast and in my opinion the United States.  At stake on March 5th, 2011 will be a WBC Muay Thai National Title fight and Muay Thai Association of America (MTAA) super fights which include 12 action-packed bouts.

The main event of the evening will feature rising United States nak muay and MTAA’s National Champion Joe “Stich ‘Em Up” Schilling against Saekson Muay Thai’s very own Chase Green for the WBC Super Middleweight Interim title.  Green has in the past fought and beaten some notable opponents in the past including  recently of Phuket, Thailand Cyrus Washington.

Joe Schilling has gone public with some of the struggles he has had with the WBC Muay Thai to get recognition and the seemingly fluid nature of their rankings. Schilling has been finishing his opponents in a no doubt fashion en route to earn his title shot.  Both Green and Schilling are lanky, powerful super middleweights and the bout has promise to bring significant fireworks in the ring. One would assume this interim title victory for either fighter would finally put them in line against long undefended super middleweight champion Jared Lara.

Recently turned professional fighter, Artem Sharoshkin will fight Texas’ Boorzoo Honargohar.  Artem is a technically sound fighter who is a frequent face on many of WCK Muay Thai’s events. Boorzoo Honargohar like Chase Green, also hails out of Saeksan Janjira’s gym in Texas.

The third professional fight of the evening has Joey Pagliuso of USKO gym. Fighting Pagliuso will be Jose Palacios of San Francisco, California.  Palacios fought a close match with Oakland’s Sugar Cane Coke Chunhawat with Chunhawat becoming the victor of that fight by split decision. This fight will be an important fight for both fighters to move up in the rankings.

The rest of the under card features some of United States’ top amateurs who are looking to get a shot at an MTAA National Title.

Sevak Ohanjanyan vs. Beto Rodriguez for the Super Fight Muay Thai Cup.  The winner of the match will get a title shot against MTAA Super Welterweight Champion Buanthong Syvathong.

Gaston Bolanos vs. Alfred Kashakyan.

Also on the card:

Oscar Sanchez vs Bell Tran

Jonathan Puu vs Howard Jeon

Anthony Acosta vs Jose Flores

Charles Bisset vs Jason Rzepka

George Amiryan vs Marcos Guevarra

The doors open at 4pm, and first bout begins at 6pm.  As a fan I like seeing what MTAA and Montri Supanich are doing.  And the consistent quality of each succeeding event holds some promise towards bigger and better things in the future.
