Thai Fight 2nd Round Matchups

Much thanks goes to Phon Martdee for the news. With the 1st round of Thai Fight done the roster has been slimmed from 16 fighters to 8. According to Phon himself this is an effort to attract Muay Thai for Thais who aren’t gamblers and of course to expand international interest in Muay Thai. And of course what better way than to have fans of internationally competing fighters watching their home country fighters? No doubt there is going to be extensive footage of the fighters training for the Thai Channel 3 produced reality televison show to accompany the tournament.
The second round robin in the 67kg division will consist of the following fighters:
- Soishiro Miyakoshi (JAPAN) VS Liam Harrison (ENGLAND)
- Rafi Zouheir (SPAIN) VS Fabio Pinca (FRANCE)
- Petchmonkong Petchfocus (THAILAND) VS Vitaly Gurkov (RUSSIA)
- Anthony Kane (NEDERLAND) VS Youssef Boughanem (BELGIUM)
I like the looks of this lineup and these matches should be pretty tightly contested and I don’t see an easy win for anyone participating in Thai Fight. The semi final 2nd round is scheduled to be held on October 25th, 2010. With the tournament now getting some attention one can only hope (and possibly in vain) that at some point Thai Fight gets licensed for viewing by international markets and that it will perform better specifically in the United States market where Contender Asia was yanked mid season off the air.
