Steven Wakeling Returns

After first being announced as an 8-man tournament, “The Champions Club” tournament announced that the format will now be changed to a 4-man tournament. The sixth edition of the “The Champions Club” will take place in Pattaya, Thailand on Saturday, January 8, 2011. In the same evening Steve Wakeling will fight  to win the WBC world belt in 168 lbs (76.364 kg) against the Thai Jaowchalam Chatjankogym. Wakeling had fought and beaten Australia’s John Wayne Parr in his last run before his return today. It will be interesting to see if Steven Wakeling can return to the same form that made him a champion in his first run as a professional fighter.

Also on the card is a scheduled super fight between French Thaiboxer Mickael Lallemand against Thailand’s Sittichai Sitsongpeenong.

The known card is as follows:

WBC Muay Thai Super Middleweight World Title (168 lbs, 76,364 kg)

Interestingly, enough it looks like both the WBC and WMC independent sanctions will be working together on the same card which marks the first time ever the rival sanctions have worked on the same card.
