Jean Claude Van Damme on AE Likely

Jean Claude Van Damme

The news keeps coming about Jean Claude Van Damme’s bout coming up with Olympic gold medalist and noted Muay Thai boxer Somluck Kamsing.  Or rather the promotional activities leading up to Van Damme’s fight with Somluck, which is tentatively scheduled for broadcast October 2010. As already announced, Van Damme has cemented a deal with the United Kingdom’s I TV Network to help develop his reality TV show. The upcoming reality TV show will chronicle Hollywood blockbuster actor Van Damme’s training and preparation for the bout.

There has been some growing hype about the event with Van Damme  actively working the press circuit and appearing at the famed Cannes film festival to further hype his coming reality TV show debut. It looks like the USA has finally caught on and the America A&E network will pickup Van Damme’s reality TV series for the United States.  A&E is probably best known for bringing reality TV show star and son of Ozzy Ozbourne, Jack Osbourne to Thailand to train and ‘fight’ at Fairtex.

There’s an abundance of material for reality tv dramatics with Van Damme’s multiple marriages, history of battling addiction and with children from his 2nd wife in tow it could be a very interesting season.  Supposedly the first 6 weeks will cover Van Damme’s training up to the fight with the 2nd 7 weks covering Xomluck Kamsing’s activities leading up to the fight.

Van Damme was quoted as saying the following statements on his upcoming reality tv show:

“I’m in good shape, but it’s going to get better,” he said.

“The show is going to be all about my family,” he says. “Just like the Osbournes.”

Wow, I some how knew the invariable comparison with the Osbournes was coming. It is however starting to look like that’s the basis of the show in my opinion more so than Van Damme’s fight preparation.  Thanks for reading.

Continuing Strife Disrupts Stadiums

Lumpinee Park

Protests have once again forced a relocation move by the Stadiums showcasing Muay Thai in Bangkok, Thailand. Rajadamnern once again made a very laudable gesture to the Lumpinee Stadium organizers to use Rajadamnern’s space to stage fights amidst the escalating turmoil with the red shirts in Bangkok. “Set Kong” reportedly was grateful but could not make a decision with out group consensus both board and promoters.

As many of you may already know the political tensions are definitely causing an impact on Muay Thai organizers as redshirts have also settled in Lumpinee Park causing further disruptions.

At Rajdamnern stadium, Pri Panyalak, a Rajadamnern Stadium referee expressed great concern over the situation. Panyalak in the past has offered Lumpinee Stadium’s space for Rajadamnnern events to hold cards at. He also revealed that Lumpinee offered their help when Rajdamnern was impacted. Now with Rajdamnern being in a less dangerous area they have repaid the offer by making ready for Lumpinee events. The offer reportedly still stands.

From Lumpinee, General Wasan Puengsamphao while thankful for Rajadamnern’s concern said he could not give a firm answer. Puengsamphao also further stated that he would have to convene a meeting on the matter for the best action to take next.

“I am very appreciative of Rajdamnern’s offer. However, we have to organize a meeting between executive board and promoters, so that stage manager can give orders of what to do. Personally, when I consider the situation, I am confident that the situation is not very serious until we have to move to Rajdamnern. Anyway, we will have a meeting.”

Thanks for reading.  I can only hope the redshirt activity cools down and life as well as Muay Thai in Bangkok can resume their normal routines.

WBC Muay Thai Press Tour of Shaolin

Muay Thai meets Shaolin

On May 18th Yodsaenklai Fairtex and Lamsongkram Chuwatanna Made an appearance at the famed Shaolin Temple of Henan, China.  The appearance was to promote the WBC Muay Thai’s growing presence in Asia.

Lamsongkram Chuwatanna wields the Monk's spade

The Muay Thai international competitors from Thailand were accompanied by China’s WBC Muay Thai General Secretary Zou Guojin. Together, they visited Master Shi Yongxin, the Songshan Shaolin Temple’s abbot and presented to the Shaolin Temple WBC belts much like the belt Jose Suliaman (president of the WBC) himself presented to Thailand’s Prime Minister  Abhisit Vejjajiva shortly before the turmoil intensified in Thailand among red shirt protesters. It’s hoped that the visit to China by some of Thailand’s standout international stars will serve to develop relations between Thailand and China’s competitors and strengthen WBC Muay Thai’s presence world wide. The last part I’m not sure about but starting to get things solidified by the WBC Muay Thai sanction in Asia is at least a very good start.

Notably Lamsongkram has actually competed on the Wu Lin Feng shows held there in Henan, China. Lamsongkram unexpectedly lost by way of knock out. Yodsaenklai has yet to participate in the events.
