Sakmongkol has a few trophies

In K-1’s first incarnation they did in fact have Muay Thai as part of their events. In 1996 at the K-1 1996 Revenge event Sakmongkol Sithchuchok vs. Marino Deflorin was just such an event. Sakmongkol is something of a living legend in Muay Thai having won the Lumpinee stadium title 3 times and the World Muaythai Council (WMC) world title 5 times. Sakmongkol was seen relatively recently against Cosmo Alexandre, which he won under slightly controversial judging, through no fault of his own. Here he defends his WMC title against Marino Deflorin. Million Baht Babes and Stephan Fox

There are times I almost wished I didn’t read email.  But I do as often as I can and sometimes I regret it. This is one of those times. Exploitation and entertainment go hand in hand.  I can remember before the days of ethical reprisals and the era of something resembling integrity, film makers would exercise their craft in search of profit by any means necessary. If it meant occasional titillation and sellling the chance to witness soft-core  humiliation but profits were returned in kind: it was the means that was necessary. Italy selections for Yokkao Extreme 2013

The Yokkao Extreme 2013 Selection tournaments continued with the October 27th Muay Thai tournament held in Italy loosely entitled “One Night”. There would be two weight classes used to determine who would move on to the final event of Yokkao Extreme to be held in Italy and headlined by Andy Souwer, the Shootboxing multi-time time champion and Dzhabar Askerov WMC European Champion. If you missed the stream I will vouch for it being a very entertaining card. Continue reading ‘Yokkao Extreme Selections 2013 Continue with One Night’

Somrak Kamsing, Olympic Boxing Champion

Somrak Kamsing has been a busy man. Few nak muay past or present have been where he has.  Somrak has been a gold medal Olympic boxer, an actor, a singer, a gym owner and now his life has come full circle and Somrak has made a return to Muay Thai.

Somrak first stepped into the ring at the age of 13. With an impressive performance that resulted in a tie, Somrak joined his first camp at 14. Somrak won often enough that they tried him in boxing where he was mismatched against a pro who knocked him out. Afterwards Somrak’s focus shifted purely on to Muay Thai where he continued with wins in Rajadamnern stadium. After school ended Somrak focused once again on international boxing. He fought well and won often enough that he was chosen to represent Thailand in the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain in 1992. Ultimately, he would lose but the loss served only to drive Somrak to train harder. His renewed focus gained him gold at both the Asian Games and ultimately Olympic gold at flyweight in international boxing at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. Artem Levin Vs. Steven Wakeling

Artem Levin fights Steven Wakeling with what was to be a WMC Muay Thai light heavy weight title up for grabs at the XFS Xplosion Series.  The fight was controversial to many observers. Though in the fight you won’t see questionable tactics or techniques out of the norm. Levin fought in a very partisan place, with a very partisan crowd, and with very partisan commentary despite Kieran Keddle’s best attempts at bringing balanced commentary. If the commentary distracts, watch it on mute and decide for yourself. Continue reading ‘Steven Wakeling Vs. Artem Levin’

Troy Sheridan and Kru Minhas

Troy Sheridan is a  Muay Thai fighter from the Ultimate Martial Arts team in Ontario, Canada. Troy is a standout among a growing list of Canadian nak muay, noted for their skill and toughness. After making his pro debut in New York based promotion Friday Night Fight Troy has fought both in tournaments and single bouts each time being simultaneously underestimated and solidifying his undefeated record against good competition.  It should be noted its even more of a remarkable achievement given that often his opponents had more ring experience than he did.
