Steve McKinnon Versus Carnage Corbett Rematch Stalled

By Mike LNg

Steve McKinnon

During the past few weeks, the McKinnon camp have apparently been trying to arrange a meeting with the Nathan “Carnage”Corbett camp to negotiate the rematch fight. In the first fight Nathan Corbett won by a 4th round TKO due to elbow cut. Corbett has since moved on to the heavyweight division and making his mark there as well.  In that time Corbett has won the following accolades:

  • 2010 W.K.N. Muay Thai World Champion -95kg
  • 2010 A-1 World Combat Cup Heavyweight Tournament Champion
  • 2009 W.I.P.U. King of the Ring Champion

Steve McKinnon is coming off a title defense against Brazil’s Eduardo Morais and against France’s Stephane Superregui for the WBC Muay Thai super cruiserweight title.

Reportedly, both were ready to fight but Corbett’s camp declined the fight. The reasoning is that Corbett’s fight calendar is full for 2011 and likely 2012.  It’s unlikely that WBC can make a match up at that weight given that Corbett holds no titles at McKinnon’s current weight. It seems the matches future if there is to be one would be up to promotional pressure and fan demand in Australia.

  1. am i the only one who doesnt care for watching nathan corbett fight?

    • He’s good in my book. Sometimes he may lack some what in ‘special’ effects but he’s solid and I like him. I do think including McKinnon there are meaningful fights for him in wait.
