Alex Vogel Versus Nonsai

Apparently, Germany’s  Alex Vogel will replace Sweden’s Marcus Oberg in the line up of this year’s King’s Cup 8-man tournament. The reason why Vogel would be replacing Oberg was not made public.

Significantly, Vogel says he looks most forward to fighting Thailand’s Yodsaenklai Fairtex.  As a second choice of who Vogel would like most to face in the tournament was Brazil’s Cosmo Alexandre.  Cosmo himself was dismissed from It’s Showtime as its incumbent champion at 77kg and barred from participating in any more of the Dutch promotional giant’s events.

Alex Vogel fights out of the Masters Gym in Duisburg, Germany. Vogel when questioned about his selection was quoted as saying it was because they wanted the best nak muay of Germany. In  the Kings Cup in Thailand Vogel is to hold up the German flag. Alex Vogel recently competed in a fight against Nonsai Sor Sayakorn of Elite Boxing for the Thailand Versus Challenger series.

The King’s Cup is the world Muay Thai tournament held  annually since 1999 and is in honor of the King of Thailand on his birthday of December 5th in Bangkok, Thailand.

It is estimated that around 300,000 spectators will be live on site. The winner of the Muay Thai 8-man tournament will be awarded an ornate trophy donated by the King of Thailand himself.

Janus Fight Night 2010

The King Birthday and final 2010 Muay Thai events keep rolling in and this upcoming one in Janus Fight Night 2010 returns on  December 04, 2010. Some of you may remember the impressive win K-1 MAX champion Giorgio Petrosyan gained over tough Dutch stalwart Marco Pique back in 2007 in Janus Fight Night 2007 also held in Padova, Italy. This time around Armen Petrosyan will make his stand in 2010’s Janus Fight night against Leroy Kaestner.

The main event fight for the 2010 Janus Fight Night will feature Diego Calzolari fighting for the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) Muay Thai title against Namsaknoi. Namsaknoi appeared to be retired for all intents and purposes. Namsaknoi was the former star fighter of Por Pramuk racking up 3 Lumpinee stadium titles in 3 different weight categories and even had an international boxing championship strap under PABA. Namsaknoi the last I heard of him was retired and teaching at Chaweng Stadium.  It’ll be interesting to see what the emperor brings to the ring these days.

The rest of the card is as follows:

Isuzu Tournament

As many of you already know the months long Isuzu Muay Thai tournament is already underway.  the tournament will ultimately decide who will fight in the 2011 edition of Thai Fight. Not only does the winenr collect a reasonably hefty sum of 1,000,000 Thai baht but also recevies an Isuzu D-Max pickup.

Now to the results: Last week Thanongdeth defeated on points Thepsutin. Reportedly, Thanongdeth applied steady pressure with knees.
On November 27th, Saturday Prakaisaeng lost on points against the young Denchonlek (17 years old).  Prakaisaeng seemed a  little weak at this weight and Dencholek knocked him over the ropes enroute to a win.

Saenchai at Sinbi MuayThai

As many of you already know the artist formerly known as Saenchai Sor Kingstar is now Saenchai Sinbi MuayThai. From a press release out of Saenchai’s new camp in Phuket:

Muay Thai legend Saenchai sor Kingstar has left Bangkok city life behind to join the hugely successful Sinbi Muay Thai in Phuket.

Widely recognized as the best pound for pound fighter in the world, Saenchai feels it is time to raise his International profile and give his family a better quality of life on Phuket.

Sinbi Muay Thai is delighted to add Saenchai to their stable of Thai fighters and have the opportunity to offer his years of experience to Sinbi students who can receive private lessons from the superstar as he builds up to his debut fight for the gym on the 7th December.

The fight will take place at Lumpinee where he defends his WMC title at 133lbs, against Nongo from Sitor Gym (133 lbs). Saenchai also has a number of international fights in the pipeline.

Saenchai comes with his 10 year old son, Deow, as well as two fighters from Bangkok –  PaePae (15 years old) and Samurai (10 years old).  All three will be fighting out of Sinbi Muay Thai and it will be a great privilege to watch them grow as fighters under the tutelage of Saenchai.  Saenchai’s son loves hip-hop and dancing and from what has seen so far, it is equally likely that he will become a world famous dancer!  Like his father, he clearly has many talents and is an all round exceptional athelete.

Saenchai is from Isaan in the north east of Thailand.  He started practicing Muay Thai at the age of 8 and has at least ten major championship belts to his credit.  He has been Lumpinee Champion three times (in different weight categories).  He was World Champion at 130 lbs.  He has been named Fighter of the Year on two occasions, in 1998 and 2009.  It is a testament to his unique ability that he received the second award when he was only 30, as most Muay Thai fighters retire in their mid twenties.  Saenchai is also a very talented footballer and last year he visited Phuket for the Kata Cup as part of the Muang Thong squad.

Saenchai and Sinbi Taewoong with students

Sinbi Muay Thai in Phuket was established approximately four years ago by the internationally renowned Muay Thai (Thopadake) and K1 fighter – Sinbi Taewoong.  Sinbi Muay Thai is now under co-ownwership with British business woman Dr Lynne Miller.  Sinbi Muay Thai has built a strong reputation as a traditional Muay Thai gym which has successfully managed to retain high quality fighters, whilst also providing training for students who come from all over the world.  These students benefit from the opportunity to train with the greatest selection of ex-champions anywhere in Phuket.

Saenchai’s new fighting name is Saenchai SinbiMuayThai and Sing and Lynne and everyone at Sinbi welcomes him to the gym and looks forward to a long and fruitful partnership.

Sanechai hard at work in his new digs

I cannot wait to see what lies in wait for Saenchai.  One thing’s for sure Nong-o is no easy fight but almost anything seems possible for Saenchai as I’ve seen him overcome many larger opponents with his high level of skill and precision timing.

*Much thanks to Dr.Lynne for the photos!
