Kevin Ross Responds to Kang En Rematch

Kevin "The Soul Assassin" Ross with belts

Recently it has become public knowledge that Kevin Ross, USA rising star in Muay Thai refused a rematch with Kang En of China. They had met two times before, the first time being in China where Kevin dropped a controversial decision and the 2nd in Las Vegas where Kevin knocked Kang En out.  Ross has through his high profile fights in the United States and overseas in Thailand become perhaps the best known United States nakmuay in recent history. Kevin decided he wanted an opportunity to publicly respond to why the rematch never happened.  What follows is his own account of why the fight was not made again.

I just want people to know the real reason that the rubber match between Kang En and I is not happening. I refused to fight him for the
money that was offered to me. I refused to fight him because there are plenty of other people that deserve a shot at my title. What has he
done since I knocked him out that he deserves a rematch? I told Dennis (the promoter) to either pay me more, make it a non title fight,
or find me someone else for me to fight. I was basically told to take it or leave it. I don’t appreciate people putting my name out there
and making it seem like I’m ducking anyone. I’ll fight anyone anywhere but I’m not going to be taken advantage of by promoters just because
they think they can get away with it.

You can keep up to date on both the WCK Muay Thai news and Kevin Ross on their respective sites.

Wu Lin Feng Spectacular Lineup

Wu Lin Feng Comes to Las Vegas

The full fight lineups as known have now been revealed. In Sync productions and Dennis Warner will be teaming up to  bring the WuLinFeng Las Vegas Spectacular to the United States on November 13th, 2010. The hosting venue will be Harrah’s Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wu Lin Feng as many of you already know reaches more than 30 million viewers via their television product broadcasted from the Henan TV network in China. Live attendance of Wu Lin Feng regularly numbers in the 6,000+ mark. Wu Lin Feng began negotiating with other international markets including the UK and now the USA.

In a very real way I could see Wu Lin Feng ultimately filling the void the ailing K-1 brand of Japan is rapidly opening through lackluster matchmaking and not paying fighters. Though time will ultimately tell on that note.

In typical fashion China will no doubt be leveraging the nationalist pride angle for a United States versus China theme. Dennis Warner has even been quoted as saying “It has taken a whole year for WuLinFeng organization to select the Chinese fighters for this competition.  Each and every one of them had to earn their place in the team,”

Kang En of China will be making an anticipated return to the ring in the United States and was at one time scheduled to rematch Kevin Ross.

The fights on the card will consist of 2 full rules Muay Thai bouts with WBC Muay Thai overseeing the matches while the remainder of the fights will be conducted under modified rules with out elbow strikes.

Las Vegas favorite, Jack Thames will stand up to Guang Hong, the star of the Art of War championship and national champion of China.  Thames is coming off of two wins by KO and TKO against Mike Ryan of Los Angeles, and Eric Utsch of Penn. respectively.  Thames is also set for a re-match with Craig Buchanan for a WBC MuayThai National middleweight belt after a close fight result in April of this year.

Heath “Cowboy” Harris is set to fight the leader of the Chinese team Wang Hongxiang, who demonstrated a spectacular win over Joe Schilling last year in Las Vegas.  Harris is best-known for his knockouts, 28 knockouts out of 29 wins.

Complete fight card is as follows:

WBC Muaythai International Super Lightweight Bout 5rds.

Ben Yelle vs Kang En

WBC Muaythai Super Featherweight Bout 5rds.

Nat McIntyre vs Li Ning

WuLinFeng Cruiserweight Bout 3rds.

Andy Kapel vs Guo Qiang

WuLinFeng Middleweight Bout 3rds.

Jack Thames vs Hong Guang

WuLinFeng Light Heavyweight Bout 3rds.

Heath Harris vs Wang Hongxiang

WuLinFeng Super Welterweight Bout 3rds.

TBA vs Xu Yan

WuLinFeng Welterweight Bout 3rds

Alfred Khashakyan vs Lin Shuai

WuLinFeng Women’s Featherweight Bout 3rds.

Tiffany vanSoest vs Wang Cong

WuLinFeng Middleweight Bout 3rds.

Adrien Grotte vs Yi Long

Fights start at 7 p.m. at Harrah’s Las Vegas Ballroom.

Tickets are priced at $75, $100 and $150. For fight info, please dial 877-446-7962. For tickets please call 866-998-3427 or go to www.vegas.com.

Notably, no WBC Muay Thai straps are being staked and it appears true to Patrick Kusic’s word WBC Muay Thai will convene in Cancun, Mexico’s convention to determine rankings, committees and overall structure on how each country decides its rankings.  To that end I have made a request to see these rankings and have asked not only for a clearer picture of the USA standings but the world’s, broken down nation by nation. Stay tuned and I’ll let you know when I know.

I got this little bit of news from Rob Cox: In light of the recent huge floods that have caused chaos to much of the country and seen 30 dead so far there is going to be a big charity event at Lumpini on 2nd of November, put together with top fighters from both stadiums. Saiyok versus Mabel for Lumpinee Championship Trailer Released

Saiyok Pumpanmuang, Current Lumpinee Super Welterweight Champion

Earlier on I reported the match being made official between Saiyok Pumpanmuang and Abdallah Mabel of St.Fons France.  The match is made for Saiyok to defend his Lumpinee stadium title but not in the famed Lumpinee stadium of Thailand but instead in Paris, France.  Though it is not new for stadium titles to be contested outside of Thailand, this will mark the first time Lumpinee’s famed championship will be decided outside of Thailand. Saiyok easily outpointed Antuan Siangboxing at the Queen’s Birthday for a landslide victory.

Saiyok originally won his Lumpinee title by defeating Singsiri Por Siricha via 2nd round knockout.

Abdallah Mabel with belts

Abdallah Mabel should prove to be strong competition as a 4 time world champion in Muay Thai.

Finally, a trailer has been made to help hype the event.  And I must admit it worked on me at least.  I’m pretty excited for this match up. Check out the trailer below:

The rest of the fight card is as follows:

Main Event

Petchthawee Versus Sam-A Thor Ratonakiat

Lumpinee Stadium

Sam-A Thor Ratonakiat has been a steady constant the top of Thailand’s best and has made frequent appearances on Petchyindee promoted shows for several years. Sam-A comes from the Buriram province in Northeast Thailand. His technical excellence and punishing left leg kick has been notable en route to capturing Lumpinee titles at 115 and 122 pounds and the Thailand 115 pound title in the past.

In this contest in 2009 of Rajadamnern stadium versus Lumpinee we see Sam-A fight Petchthawee Sor Kittichai. Though this piece of video has been put up before I thought it might make a relief to have it all in one place in one video for ease of viewing. Enjoy the fight.

King’s Cup December 5th, 2010 Event Line Up

One Songchai's King's Cup Lineup

It looks like Songchai’s going to be putting together another internationally flavored 8-man tournament to commerate the King of Thailand’s 83rd birthday. Just looking at the line up and some of the expected matchups it looks at least on paper very promising. It almost appears to be a rogue’s gallery of past opponents of Yodsaenklai with Holland’s Marco Pique, Brazil’s Cosmo Alexander , Vuylise Colossa and Contender Asia’s Dhzabar Askerov in the line up.  One very obvious and out of place competitor is Jesse Miles of Calgary’s Mike Miles  gym.  Jesse Miles is actually the fighter incorrectly named as Sweden’s Marcus Oberg of Sweden. Jesse Miles recently won a WKL ‘world title’. Notably most titles are vacant from the WKL and apparently a WMC title of any stripe could not be brokered by Canadian WMC arm Mike Miles’.

Thai Fight Final

Coinciding with this new 8 man tournament the Final round of Thai Fight will also be highlighted with the 1st half of the final tournament being set earlier in the day and the 2nd half concluding at night.

The lineup for the Thai Fight Final initially is:

Fabio Pinca vs. Petchmonkong Petchfocus
Youssef Boughanem vs. Miyakoshi Soichiro (Miayakoshi despite losing to Liam Harrison will continue because Harrison failed to make weight)
