Jean Charles Skarbowsky, one of France’s modern legends of Muay Thai

One of France’s modern Muay Thai legends faces off against Thailand’s Kunsuk Petsupapan who fought many high level opponents in Thailand including Naruepon Fairtex. This match was part of the A division lineup leading to the S-1 2004 championship bout promoted by One Songchai in Thailand. The weight limit for this event was 71 kg.

Turnoi Young Guns 2 Featuring 2, 4-Man Tournaments

Turnoi Young Guns II

From Powergym and Lucien Deroy comes the Turnoi Young Guns 2. This will be still another event that will be highlighted by a 4-man tournament and under K-1 rules.  It seems that though the Japanese kickboxing promotion is steadily on its way to a decline and eventual closure the love of the tournament under modified rules isn’t. That the format is such a long enduring and widely accepted format is telling. Fans apparently like it and internationally the format is seen more and more in use. And logically promoters seem to understand the value of getting multiple fights out of each competitor for one fee.

The competitors in the 4-man tournament are among some of the more veteran names in the French Muay Thai scene so while I don’t know that the Young Guns part of the title is wholly accurate the matchups look to be very competitive and should produce some pleasing action along the way. Apparently Turnoi Young guns 2 will offer not one but 2 tournaments.  The main card  will start  at 6:00 pm and the tournament(s) will start at 8:00 pm.

The first 4-man lineup will include:

Steeve Valent

Abdoul Toure (recently participated in the one full rules Muay Thai bout on the Slovak Power: Ring of Honor event)

Ahmed Hassan

Habil Ellouisi

The second tournament fighters are:

Edgard Nzunga

Mickael Piskitello

Hichem Chaibi

Ahmed Zragua

Its interesting that the two brackets weren’t combined into a single 8-man tournament as all fighters are apparently going to be matched at 71 kg.

The remainder of the card is mostly Muay Thai super fights which will include long time fighters of Lucien Deroy’s gym.

The event is also scheduled to be broadcast in France via the Orange Sport network.

Enfusion coaches

After two successful seasons It’s Showtime’s Enfusion reality TV show is set to return for a 3rd season that is at the time of this writing most likely fully wrapped up. EnFusion helped expose such international fighters as Cosmo Alexandre of Brazil to an even larger audience.

From the photo above you can see some of the coaches.  Most notable to me was Julie Kitchen who is a very decorated fighter from the UK and is being looked at by most fans as the next logical fight for WBC Muay Thai champion Miriam Nakamoto of the United States.

Enfusion’s next installment, titled “Quest for Honor”, will focus on the 95 kg weight limit. The basic press release for Enfusion is as follows:

Once again Enfusion has set about the task of searching for the best up and coming top athletes from various countries. Talent from around the globe will demonstrate their skills to the world to show their level of skill and dedication to our sport!. These athletes will meet in the proving grounds of Superpro Samui training camp in Koh Samui Thailand, where they will be tested and eliminated until four end up in the finals of Enfusion’s Quest for Honor. Spectators and fans alike will be in for a real treat as the 95 kilo max division is rarely focused on. Therefore our selected athletes will be out to prove to the world the action, drama and excitement which comes in this competitive weight class. This show will be among the best you will ever see.

The show will be recorded in January 2011.

These are the selected coutries:

1. Armenia 2. turkey 3. Czech republic 4. Finland 5. Australia 6.Congo 7.Poland 8.Surinam

9. Holland 10. USA 11. Belgium 12.France 13.Lituania 14. Canada 15 Russia 16 Mexico

17. Indonesia

It’s interesting to see Enfusion continuing despite It’s Showtime encountering difficulties with their scheduled May show due to an apparent lack of talent and promotional support with Japan’s  K-1 brand. While there is no Muay Thai bouts the show will take place in Superpro gym in Koh Samui and fights will largely be conducted under modified Muay Thai rules very similar to K-1’s own rules.

Buakaw Por Pramuk in Thai Fight

As many of you know there is some very significant news about Buakaw Por Pramuk and his coming events.  First Buakaw will be fighting Thai Fight runner up Yussef Boughanhem at the February 12th, 2011 event, La Nuit Des Titans in Tours, France.  Then Buakaw is expected to participate in Thai Fight itself though in what capacity is not known yet.  Whether in a tournament or in a super fight Buakaw’s appearance is already being heavily advertised in support of Thai Fight’s 2nd round of tournaments and qualifiers have already been underway in Thailand.

Buakaw recently sat down with a French Muay Thai journalist to discuss these upcoming fights.  Pretty impressive piece of video.  It opens with Buakaw working out and demonstrating some impressive skills on the pads and the heavy bag.

For non French and Thai speakers this is my rough translation of what Buakaw had to say.

Question: Thank you for talking to us. How are you preparing for Youssef Boughanhem?

Buakaw:I’m training as usual. I’ll be ready for this one.

Question: Why weren’t you fighting in to K-1 this year?

Buakaw Por Pramuk: Because I had another tournament in Japan Shootboxing.

I  hope we’ll do a good match (with Boughanhem) and that the French fans will enjoy it.

And don’t forget I’ll be there in Tours, France. Wait for me I’m coming.

Question: Do you remember your first fight in France?

Buakaw Por Pramuk: Yes, it was a few years ago against Morad Sari. We did a draw, it was in Paris.

Question: Do you know your opponent?

Buakaw Por Pramuk: Yes, he fought in a tournament “Thai Fight” and he finished 2nd.

Question: You fought under K-1 rules for years. Will it be hard to come back to Muay Thai rules especially against an opponent that knows Muay Thai very well?

Buakaw Por Pramuk: No, Muay Thai remains Muay Thai.  We just use it in addition with elbows and knees.  I’m very happy to come back to Muay Thai.

Much thanks goes to www.jcdugue.com for the interview and video.

One Songchai World Championships

Cooperative efforts between Songchai and Italian promoters are continuing to grow.  As some of you may already known Songchai works actively with Italy’s Kombat League promotion. So it comes as little surprise that this event too, will be co-promoted by both Komabt League and OneSongchai. Songchai now if offering up a OneSongchai world championship main event to be held in Lecce, Italy on February 12th, 2011.

What’s known of the card is as follows:

FightCard

OneSongchai World MuayThai Title

Fabio Siciliani (Ita) Vs. Rahannok (Thai)

4-Man Tournament

(Full Muay Thai  Rules – 75Kg)

Lorenzo Capunata Vs. Filippo Fagiolo

Pasquale Mangini Vs.Lorenzo Cascella

Fabiano is a well decorated Thaiboxer who has accomplished among other accomplishments: 2 times Italian champion 2002-2008,  OneSongchai Muay Thai Italian tournament winner in 2010, and was the World Champion of  Muay Thai in WAKO-Pro 71,800 Kg in 2009.

Rahannok from Thailand is at least to me a completely unknown entity.

Several super-fights will be added and probably as of this writing already are.

Ring of Honor is complete and the 2nd event for FightCode by all impressions completed successfully.  The results are in with much thanks to Martin Belak of Slovakia for the results.

Vladimir Moravcik wins against Abdoul Tourre by TKO in 3rd

WAMTAC Holds First Sanctioned Event

WAMTAC card

World Amateur Muay Thai Association of Canada (WAMTAC) is moving forward with the first event under their independent sanction.  Prior to this event WAMTAC hosted nearly the first Muay Thai event held in Toronto in nearly 2 years. There have been some legal wrangling on the part of Robin Finley of CMTC-A and some active efforts to stop their progress but WAMTAC thus far is making Muay Thai a regularly occurring event in Toronto, Ontario. Make note specifically about what Finley says in regards to the National Federation requirement in the comments section.

Though largely most fighters in Ontario are going to remain the perpetual away team in order to compete it’s a good sign that amateur fighters at least now have a place to get valuable experience.  As a matter of demographics Ontario is the biggest province population wise in all of Canada. Compared to the province of Alberta (Where CMTC-A is headquartered) amounting to less than 1/3 of the size of Ontario at 4 million.

The card will feature fighters from the following Muay Thai Boxing schools:

Warrior Muay Thai – Toronto
Phady’s Muay Thai – Cambridge
Iron Tiger Muay Thai – Stoney Creek
South Side Muay Thai – Scarborough
Redemption Muay Thai – Bowmanville
Black Tigers Muay Thai – Toronto
Caged Dragon MMA – Brantford
Tiger Gym – Toronto

Advance Tickets – $25
Door Tickets: $35

Tickets will be available soon at the participating gyms or by contacting Warrior Muay Thai at 647-295-6143 or info@warriormuaythai.com

Sangtiennoi the Deadly Kisser

Sangtiennoi Sor Rungroj Thailand’s famous Deadly Kisser fights Onepadej Phukrongfah.  Sangtiennoi captured both the Lumpinee and Rajadamnern stadium titles and fought and defeated Holland’s Ramon Dekkers to even greater international acclaim. Onepadej also was a title holder of Rajadamnern stadium at 130 lbs. Onepadej apparently had such a long of run wins in Muay Thai and so began a career in international boxing.

Note the close elbows both fighters land on each other.  Ouch.

Omnoi Stadium

As many of you already know Omnoi stadium is working closely with Thai Fight tournament in Thailand. Both venues sponsored by Isuzu are apparently not stopping there. Much thanks to Rob Cox’s Muay Thai Focus for this piece of news.
A new tournament has been launched for the 144 lbs weight class.  The tournament is entitled Fektien Group Tournament and will begin February 5th, 2011.  Thw final will apparently be at the 146 lbs weight limit and of course will be showcased in Omnoi stadium.

At this stage the probable line-up will be:

Buckjoe Kiatchuthai
Samranchai 96 Peenang, who you may remember from Slamm! events
Ikuysang KT Gym
Longern Tungsongthaksin
Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong
Petchsanguan Sitniwat
Tuantong Pumphanmuang
Charoenchai Ouddonmuang

Events are happening and more often for the heavier class of nak muay in Thailand.

Samson Vs. Langsuan Phanyvthtaphum

Samson Attacks Roberto Moreno in International Boxing

Continuing Songchai’s Olympic heroes series Samson Formerly Elite Gym and 3K Battery, fights Langsuan Phanyvthtaphum.  In this video Samson is erroneously labelled the IBF champion.  Samson instead spent his entire boxing career fighting for the lowly regarded World Boxing Federation (WBF).  As a world champion Samson was completely undefeated ending his career with a 43-0 record but actually never participated in Olympic boxing.

Langsuan Phanyvthtaphum was voted the best boxer of 1987 and held Lumpinee stadium titles in 2 weight classes:  108 lbs. and 115 lbs. Because of his hard knee attacks and aggression Langsuan was nicknamed “Mr.Mean”.
