Anuwat Kaewsamrit, the Iron Hands of Siam

By apparent popular demand Anuwat Kaewsamrit makes his return to action at Rise 71 to be held October 3rd, 2010. Anuwat Kaewsamrit has been a long time veteran of Muay Thai and much of the speculation of him being on the b-side of his career is valid but he has still proven more than viable internationally. Anuwat is set to match Kan Itabashi a young gun of Muay Thai in Japan at 63kg in the main event.

Kan Itabashi

Also on the card: Koji Yoshimoto v. Yuto Watanabe and Yuki v. Naoki in the semi-finals of RISE’s 63kg tournament; Shohei Asahara v. Motochika Hanada in the 63kg reserve fight; Yuto Nakaegawa v. Yutaka; and Raoumaru v. Atsushi.

Rise in the past has been used as K-1’s feeder league and was in fact the event names such as Artur Kyshenko and Hinata have been ‘discovered’. Hinata in the past beat Kyshenko by crescent kick TKO. Ironically Kan Itabashi defeated Kanongsuk Weerasakreck by wide points decision on the very same card that Hinata and Kyshenko were on.  It seems though full rules Muay Thai is being used more and more often for Rise’s fight formats. Correction via Akiko Hi actually this is still K-1 rules.  Good to see and I can only hope it continues.

Super Fight Original Lineup

Shortly after the first Round Of the Thai Fight tournament wrapped up the Thai representative Petmankong Petfergus was due back in action.  In what is typical fashion for Thaiboxers Petmankong was to stay busy this time in a high profile match against Saenchai Sor Kingstar between tournament bouts with Thai Fights. But due to Thai Fights commitments he will instead be replaced by Orono Wor Petchpun. Singdam Kiatmuu 9 had a quick ascent in Thailand and met and fought Anuwat and will be matched against the widely regarded pound for pound best in the world in Saenchai Sor Kingstar.  The event is called Wanmitchai big show in Rajadamnern Stadium and will be held Sept 9th.

1: Chatchai Sor Thanayong vs Ekmongkol Gaiyanghaadao gym 113-115

2: Mondam Sor Wirapon vs Detsakda Sitsongpeenong 105-107

3: Thelek Wor Sangprapai vs Julong Ekbangsai 102

4: Petpanomrung Sor Thamarangsi vs Chaidet Sor Sor Suriya 106

5: Orono Wor Petpun vs Chamuekthong Chor Worachai 133

6: Rungruanglek Lukprabart vs Kangwanlek Petyindee 115-119

Main Event: Saenchai Sor Saenchai vs Singdam Kiatmuu 9  132-135

Orono many of you may know of internationally from his fights in Europe and most notably on the Slamm Holland versus Thailand matches. It should also be noted that Petmankong has worked hard to hang on to his bigger weight at 67 kg specifically for Thai Fight where he is among the smaller competitors there.

Kyshenko Vs. Terapong Dee at Sport Accord

Artur Kyshenko

Some video footage of the semifinals of Sport Accord’s Muay Thai semi-finals have started to emerge. K-1 MAX standout Artur Kyshenko’s fight last night at the SportAccord Combat Games 2010 in Beijing is here. This bout was for the semi-final in the 71kg division in Muay Thai. In essence it’s Muay Thai rules with headgear, body, shin and foot pads. There has been some speculation that the decision as unfair even this early on.  So thankfully with some video being released on youtube you can decide for yourself. I don’t know if the change in rules from K-1 MAX had much to do with it or Kyshenko gave  Terapong too much respect but he definitely seems a bit our of his element. The fight video is towards the end of round 2 but the rest of the fight is complete.

The video starts towards the end of round 2, and is complete from there.

Thai Fight 2nd Round Matchups

Thai Fight

Much thanks goes to Phon Martdee for the news.  With the 1st round of Thai Fight done the roster has been slimmed from 16 fighters to 8. According to Phon himself this is an effort to attract Muay Thai for Thais who aren’t gamblers and of course to expand international interest in Muay Thai.  And of course what better way than to have fans of internationally competing fighters watching their home country fighters? No doubt there is going to be extensive footage of the fighters training for the Thai Channel 3 produced reality televison show to accompany the tournament.

The second round robin in the 67kg division will consist of the following fighters:

  • Soishiro Miyakoshi (JAPAN) VS Liam Harrison (ENGLAND)
  • Rafi Zouheir (SPAIN) VS Fabio Pinca (FRANCE)
  • Petchmonkong Petchfocus (THAILAND) VS Vitaly Gurkov (RUSSIA)
  • Anthony Kane (NEDERLAND) VS Youssef Boughanem (BELGIUM)

I like the looks of this lineup and these matches should be pretty tightly contested and I don’t see an easy win for anyone participating in Thai Fight. The semi final 2nd round is scheduled to be held on October 25th, 2010. With the tournament now getting some attention one can only hope (and possibly in vain) that at some point Thai Fight gets licensed for viewing by international markets and that it will perform better specifically in the United States market where Contender Asia was yanked mid season off the air.

Sitsongpeenong Camp Responds to WMC situation in Australia

WMC logo

There has been much accusations coming forward towards the released emails coming out of Australia about and against John Cockburn speaking out against World Muaythai Council (WMC).  To any who doubt the letters authenticity let me just say I have first hand viewed the headers they came from and can vouch that they are indeed authentic. As is typical with scenarios like this the circling of wagons has begun by the WMC’s devoted followers in Australia.  Interestingly enough Sitsongpeenong who have felt WMC’s injustice firsthand have spoken out. This is what Sitsongpeenong have had to say about the entire topic:

Some very interesting reading that should be posted on the International Kickboxer Forum. Unfortunately, all posts deemed NEGATIVE towards IFMA or the WMC are more than likely promptly removed/deleted by the moderators who run that site. Whom also have a close ties with certain persons from the fore mentioned bodies.

Here are some FACTS concerning the Thai Government’s relationship to WMC and other sanctioning bodies.

Firstly, the WMC claims that it is under the directive of the Thai Government. Well this is true in part – the rules and regulations for Muaythai that they follow are set out by the Sports Authority of Thailand and they are recognized by the Thai Government.

What the WMC would like to everyone around the world to believe is that they are the SOLE sanctioning body recognized by the Thai Government. However, this simply is not the case as there are SEVERAL other sanctioning bodies also recognized by the Thai Government. The WPMF and WBC Muaythai to name but two. Both could also claim to be under the directive of the Thai Government as both also follow the rules and regulations set out by the Sports Authority of Thailand and both are also registered with and recognized by the Thai Government. No need to mention both also have close ties with influential people in the Thai Government and Royalty.

Secondly, by Thai law, all professional Boxers (of all styles) who are Thai citizens must first be granted permission before they are legally allowed to go and fight abroad. To be legally granted permission the said boxer must firstly apply to the Professional Boxers Association of Thailand (which also runs the WPMF) for Permission. Once permission is granted the application is then forwarded to the Boxing Board of Control which is a department of the Sports Authority of Thailand. Failure to comply to these laws could result in bans, suspensions, legally prosecution, etc.

This is the only LEGALLY RECOGNIZED permission that the Thai Government gives to professional fighters wishing to travel overseas for competition. What the WMC approves or what agreements they have with certain embassies or countries are merely agreements between their sanctioning body and that country. Such agreements have no legal bearing in Thailand nor do they have anything to do with the Thai Government.

It must be made clear that the WMC is a PRIVATE organization and not part of the Thai Government. It is one of SEVERAL private sanctioning bodies which operate in Thailand. ALL such sanctioning bodies are recognized by the Thai Government and are legally operated under the rules and regulations of the Sports Authority of Thailand. The Boxing Board of Control governs ALL Boxing and Muaythai in Thailand. All sanctioning bodies, federations, etc fall under the control of this board.

If you were to say anyone organization had the legal authority or were under the directive of the Thai Government to run Muaythai in Thailand then it would be the Boxing Board of Control and that is because it is PART of the THAI GOVERNMENT.

Just to set the facts straight!
