Thepsutin Pumphanmuang in red fights Thanongdej Siangsimaewgym in blue.
The winner will go on to fight for a place as the Thailand representative in the 2nd edition of Thai Fight. Both fighters fought and an atypically large size for most Thai nak muay at 149 lbs. The fight was broadcasted on Thai TV channel 3 on November 20th, 2010.
Coming soon is the second edition of the “Kombat League World Cup 2010” that will take place from April 30th to May 2nd 2010, in Rimini (Italy).
After the initial success of the first edition of the event,a 2nd edition has been planned.
Due to the participation of many different countries and of course many of the Italian fighters who could compete with representatives of all countries of the world another amateur event is being scheduled. The event whether intentionally or not gives room for amateurs to grow and not be wholly reliant on the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur for any level of amateur recognition.
The competitions will be open to any Association which has an agreement with any Federation or promotional Organization, with an unlimited number of competitors without any restriction.
The tournament will be held in Rimini, Italy, same as last year. Competitions will start officially Friday 30th April, but on Thursday 29th the Referees’ Seminar will be held to define the guidelines for refereeing during the competitions. Also Muay Thai refereeing courses will start with Dr. Sawaeng Vitayapitak, Thai Referee from Rajadamnern Stadium and Professor at Muay Thai college in Bangkok. All the foreign referees, wishing to come together with the teams at their own expenses to learn to judge or referee during the competitions can get the official recognition of “Kombat League International Referee”. One has to apply in advance before, so that Kombat League can organize everything, and they must be present at the meeting.
Kombat League and One Songchai
It is also the date where the majority of the teams will arrive and therefore we will register all of them, so that on the day after, when the competitions start, all teams have already registered.
The Sporthall will be 105 Stadium Rimini, one of the biggest in the whole peninsula.
The results are in and actually have been in from December 4th’s International Fight Show in Italy. So fullest apologies for the delays in results. In the international tournament (with full rules Muay Thai) in the first round, the Thai legend Kaoponlek won as expected surprise in the final by defeating the young Claudio Amoruso and last year’s champion of the tournament Frederick Diaz who defeated Tim Thomas (England).
The final of “International Fight Show” tournament between “The Black Spider” Frederic Diaz and Kaoponlek. In the last bout it was evident that Diaz puts all of his heart and his aggressiveness in his efforts. But a gap was left in Diaz’s defense and Kaoponlek capitalized, inflicting a severe knock, and obtaining the belt for the International Fight Show 2010 .
In the other tournament with K-1 rules in the semifinal, Giovanni Bianco needed an extra round to defeat Gravina Luca. Matteo Nerdulli wins with somedifficulty facing Frederico Antonelli .
In the final event Matteo Giovanni dropped Nardulli Bianco twice in the first round and knocked him out in the 2nd with a high kick.
Other results:
Laura Passatore (Italy) beat Rina Mazepa (Russian)
The WKN world title at 55kg – Joanna Jedrzjcyk fighting out of team Hoost, Holland fights Alla Ivashkevich in Minsk, Belarus September 12th, 2010. There was some initial controversy when the winner was announced and the decision was reversed. As an aside it speaks volumes that the Belarus crowd is more interested ina fair and clean call than some other audiences.
The results are in and the event is complete. No need for a PPV to get this one. Now let the talk about who deserved to win what pause until you can see for yourself how the event went.
Quarter Finals
Cosmo Alexandre vs Jesse Miles
Yodsaenklai Fairtex vs Vuyisile Colossa
Xu Yan vs Alex Vogel
Jordan Watson vs Antoine Pinto (Antuan Siangboxing)
WCK Muay Thai just recently closed business on their last USA event for 2010 with their recent event at Harrah’s Casino. But there appears to be much in store for their December event and as jaded as I am I have to admit they pulled out all stops for this one. There will be scheduled to take place not one but two tournaments for their December 18th show in Haikou, China. Then the following day the finalists of the 2 tournaments will participate in final fights to determine who is the winner with the recipient of the winner’s circle also receiving a $10,000 cash prize.
As one might expect the event will feature many of the United States marquee fighters of Dennis Warner’s WCK events held stateside. But there are also many new faces to this particular event that you may recognize on some of my own past coverage on this very site.
The First tournament takes place at the 122lbs weight limit and will feature the following fighters:
Li Ning of China
Paulo Da Silva
Kunitaka Fujiwara
Romie Adanza
The 2nd tournament to take place will be at the higher weight limit of 160lbs and will feature the following fighters. Among them is Luis Bio, recent winner of the WBC Muay Thai Mexico championship title.
Ky Hollenbeck
Luis Bio
Steve Moxon
Pavel Obonzy
Up next defending his recently won WBC Muay Thai super heavyweight world title will be Steven “Panda” Banks from the USA. banks will defend against Brazil’s Eduardo Maiorino who last challenged Steve McKinnon for the WBC Muay Thai cruiserweight title.

Next is a female Muay Thai bout at 122 lbs with the USA’s Jeri Sitzes versus the Ukraine’s Lena Ovchynnikova. Sitzes is coming off a very definitive TKO stoppage of Australia’s Joanna MacEachern from WCK Muay Thai’s August event in the United States. Sitzes has continually improved and will try to keep her winning ways on December 18th.
Jeri Sitzes
Lena Ovchynnikova has to be one of the most decorated female nak muay I’ve ever seen. Ovchynnikova is the current title holder of the European Championship in kickboxing and Thai-boxing in 2007 (ISKA), Vice European champion kickboxing 2007 (ISKA), Champion of Ukraine for 2007-2008 in MMA and two European Cup places with Thai-boxing in 2008 (ISKA) Champion.
Lena Ovchynnikova
Next up is a WBC Muay Thai world super cruiserweight title defense for Australia’s Steve McKinnon against France’s Stephane Susperregui. McKinnon last defended his title against Eduardo Moraino who is also on this card but as the super heavyweight challenger against Steven Banks.

Recently crowned WBC Muay Thai women’s 135lbs world champion Miriam Nakamoto returns to China (where she has a very significant fan base) to defend against challenger Chantal Ughi who has been actively training and fighting in Thailand.

Fighting for an international title (at this point I am speculating it’s a WCK promotional title) is WMC Z-1 world champion Leonardo “Amendoim” Monteiro. Fighting Leo will be Petch Atsawin of Thailand.

It looks like Chinese audiences will be treated to a very good-looking card on December 18th. I’ll report more on the card and post results as I learn more.
In the wake of so many promotions (each to varying degrees of success) the USA has hosted, it now appears a new promoter is going to try their hand but in the state of Nevada. Lion Fight Promotions has boldly thrown their hat into the promotional arena at Dennis Warner’s traditional venue of Buffalo Bill’s casino in Primm, Nevada. Also interesting is that former Dennis Warner alumni Christine Toledo will be fulfilling the role of match maker. In fact many of the fighters appearing on the Lion’s Fight Promotions inaugural card are veterans of Warner’s WCK product.
Though some title appear to be for grabs at the time of this writing I am not certain if it’s a purely promotional title or an actual independently sanctioned title.
Lion Fight Muay Thai Promotions released the following statement:
Lion Fight Promotions is excited to announce its first full Muay Thai Rules event on February 12, 2011 which will take place in Primm, Nevada. The card will feature Malaipet vs. Mananquil (the rematch) and WBC Champion Kevin Ross vs. Rachen Petchnao from Southern Thailand plus many other great match ups (see line up below).
Lion Fight Promotions is led by former Las Vegas casino executive and Muay Thai enthusiast, Scott Kent. The new promotional company has been developed in consultation with Christine Toledo, one of the sport’s most popular champions and star of the reality television show (Oxygen Network’s Fight Girls) and documentary based on the women of Muay Thai. Both Kent and Toledo share a common passion for Muay Thai and are working together to promote the sport.

Needless to say every Muay Thai enthusiast in Nevada and California will be watching this closely. Can Lion Fight avoid the bungling of the other promoters or more importantly pay their participants which promoters such as Muay Thai in America have failed to do? I hope so at least.

I got this message from Baxter Humby and though a bit late it looks like a very interesting reality TV show with Baxter is headed towards the Discovery Channel. Baxter had the following to say about his show debut:
My new reality show “Bionic Builders” premieres this Sunday, Dec. 5 at 12 noon (check your local listings) on the Discovery Channel. I am asking everyone to watch it, DVR it, tune your TV to Discovery and just leave it on, etc. My goal is two million viewers. And I need your help!
Please check out this promo for the show and decide for yourself:
“Bionic Builders” follows Hollywood stuntman and amputee Casey Pieretti and inventor Bill Spracher as they design, build and test one-of-a-kind, extreme prosthetics that make their amputee clients (like me) “better than new… better than you.” Bill is a brilliant engineer with a dry wit and Casey is the irreverent and totally fearless crash-test-dummy for their high-concept, low-tech prototypes.
The show airs on the Discovery Channel on Dec. 5th on TWC at noon, and on DirecTV at 9:00 a.m.
Much thank goes out again to youtube uploader TungstenPalm for the video of France’s Fabio Pinca versus Belgium’s Youseff Boughhanhem. Both won their respective final eliminator bouts to face each other to decide the definitive winner of the Thai Fight tournament. Without a doubt Fabio’s has placed himself in a no question position on top of France’s many top nak muay and has solidified his reputation internationally by also beating Petchmonkong Petchfocus.
